    Educational Psychologist assessment

Anyone had experience of this ? We are trying to line up one privately for ds (not eligible for an LEA funded one apparently ) but have been quoted £750 . Has anyone successfully found sources of funding for one or can recommend an Ed Psych in our area ? We hope to establish whether there are any processing/dyslexia type issues alongside the motor coordination, hyperflexibility, sequencing type problems etc the OT has observed.

Is that down to your choice for a private education?

I cannot suggest anything..but £750 seems resonable to me if you consider the time involved, and the expertise.

Do you get ''primary times' sent home termly? Usually there are Independant Ed Psych's listed in there.......

yes it is because he is in the independent sector. We also have to pay for his one to one . Our LEA has a particularly stringent policy and ironically the one I have contacted works part time for them too. I can't tell if the cost is ott or the going rate yet, I was expecting at least £500. For that she would do a home vists, talk to those who have helped us thus far and do a report. We don't get Primary Times , but I wonder if it is available anywhere else, library maybe, so will look out, thanks.

Have booked it now - phoned another but her waiting list was already at Christmas.

Has anyone found that their concerns turned out not as serious as previously supposed ? ds performs reasonably well academically but perhaps not to his potential. What can an EP diagnose and recommend ?

It is this week . What should I ask or we do to make the most of the findings?

I have no advice for you, but good luck with getting some results you can work with. it will be nice just to get some direction to focus your help with. I think they will come back to you with a list of activities to do improve aspects of his learning.

my ds was assessed by the SLT earlier this year, and came back with results which said he had vocabulary understanding of a 13 yr old (he is nine) reading levels of an eleven and a spelling level of an eight year old. am not much further forward really, as he was referred as his handwriting was like a drunken spiders!

they did suggest that the school sometimes allowed a scribe to help with getting his results down on paper, as he obviously has intelligence, but just cannot get his thoughts down on paper in a reasonable timeframe. the SENCO has said i can go to her at any time for clarification of any points.

we'll see what the new term brings.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them.

Well, it's done . ds was really good as it was pretty intense for him and EP very nice. Hopefully some positive and useful information will come out of the report.
