Thanks for the info, I was told that you couldn't get them on the NHS.

And didn't make myself clear, one child is dyslexic, the other aspergers.

    Thanks again

Ummm? We got our childs last year with a NHS voucher??? Maybe the regulations have changed?
I know for sure that the NHS provide the coloured overlays and initial testing ATM as my godson is currently undergoing his assessment for Irlen Filters. I'll check back with his Mother to find out if she has to pay for the lenses.

    Question

The senco at my daughters school gave me a leaflet all about irlen syndrome after months of my daughter having difficulties reading and concentrating headaches etc.She is 7 and in yr2. After a normal eye test result the senco decided to try the coloured overlays with her reading.. she chose the colour which worked the best and the senco said it was like listening to a different child read! I came back upset from my GP`s tonight as he said it was not a medical condition so he wouldnt refer her for a test.. plus it was only the "opinion" of the senco and that he wouldnt recommend her having the full test due to the fact in his experience that she would get "labelled" as "dyslexic". He suggested going back to the senco and seeing what the school can do to help, but in his opinion children with this generally find their own way to do their schoolwork, reading etc and just manage!! I asked him what happens if she gets behind with her reading, writing etc and he said that then she would maybe get some help but only when she is much older!!! I am so confused as i have no idea where to turn next. Any advice anyone can give me would be most helpful. I have looked on the internet but cant find anything on information regarding whether the school help or not, the senco gave me the leaflet and basically said away you go and sort it out!!
Thanks for listening..From a very stressed and upset mum.

That sounds like a very rubbish GP shelly!

Could you take your daughter to the optician, would they be able to refer her?
Or see another GP in the practice, or a HV?
