    Allergies

DD2 has had bad excema and dry skin since birth. We were constantly told there was no point in allergy testing her though. However, I was speaking to a parent at the school who told me that he'd had the same with his daughter but insisted on her being checked and turns out she did have allergies. So he recommended I go back to the GP and insist on it - which I did - and her appointment was today.

She tested positive for allergies to cow's milk, dust mites and cats (we have 2). So it looks like I need to sort my shopping habits and cleaning habits and look into preventing dust mites! And I guess keep the cats out of her room - we won't be getting rid of them as they are so old, be we were told to reconsider getting more when they do die. It's not surprising as we did at least suspect it about the dairy but I'm still gutted for her. Hopefully it's something she'll grow out of though.

Will you have to use soya milk in the future? Hopefully when your new regime is in place her excema and dry skin will calm down

hey hun, glad you have some answers. i'm lactose intollerent so eat lots of stuff like soya yogs etc but i still can have lactofree milk which is . still cows milk. I'm presming your dd can't have that but do try other things as well as soya. Oatly is delicious (especially the chocolate one). There are also oodles of foods that have hidden milk in which is why i make lots of stuff from scratch. I have lots of recipies so feel free to pm me :0)

I've been amazed this afternoon at the amount of stuff that does have hidden milk in it - crazy! I do make a lot of things from scratch as well but I do need to rethink how I cook. It's DD2's birthday on Sunday and I am making a cake - guess I'll have to use the dairy free stuff! Her favourite drink is milk, so I got rice milk, Oatly (which she's had before and didn't notice) and soya milk (she doesn't like it bah) - hopefully she will like one of those to drink on its own. Also got a couple of dairy free margs and bugger it some lactofree yoghurt which I just saw (thanks Lottie!) says not suitable for milk allergy sufferers. Whoops.

Will get my head round it all and PM you soon Lottie!

chances are the lactofree yogs wont' do much to her skin if she has it in a small quantity hun but you can eat them instead anyway lol. Alpro do a milk free yog and milk free puds but watch the puds (in the free from isle) as they are high in fat!. Pure do 3 lots of milk free spreads, soya, sunflower and organic. all 3 are nice but i prefer in tast and texture the sunflower. Vitalite is also dairy free. Watch stuff like fish fingers etc as they tend to have milk powder in them and also you can find it in bread and stuff. Sorbet is a good sub for icecream but there are dairy free options for those too but you'll have to go to holland and barrett for them hun. I've replyed to you on facebook along with my phone number so just ring me if you want any info. xXx

Dd1 reacts badly to dander and dust. Hard going keeping it at bay- I have wooden floor, blinds on the windows, leather sofa, hypoallergenic bedding. Wet dust every day when she's bad, change bedding every 3 days. We tried the dairy free thing for 18 months when she was 1 and went back on it 18 m later. She's not mad on milk but the hidden milk was hard to deal with. Good luck with it all x

Yes, good luck with it all, luffly. Well done for insisting on the testing being done, they're so backward at coming forward with this!
