It doesn't rain - it bloody pisses it down!

Right... I haven't said anything because nothing will be definite until around 9:30 this morning, but on Thurs I interviewed for a job at a tech college about 5 mins from my door. The job was for "resource manager" but because of my background in IT I would also cover some IT jobs and since I have teacher training quals I'll be an emergency supply teacher to cover if someone can't come in. It's 10 hour days, but it's £25K starting with pay review after 6 month probation AND it's 5 mins from my door so no commuting.

Now, the interview was sudden since I heard about it Weds and interviewed Thurs. I was told that there's a 99% chance I'd get the job, but there were circumstances involved with the guy that had the post before me so they had to talk to him to just see where they were. So I was told to come in this morning with my passport and proof of residence for a CRV check and be prepared for my first day. Ok, cool. Except I didn't expect things to move quite so quickly and I had already committed to doing a site for a client which I thought I'd have a week or two to do.

Well, me being me and not like letting people down - I stayed up until 5am Fri and Sat getting the frame work done on the site, then woke up early yesterday so I'd be tired last night and go to bed earlyish for today. Well the content part of the site took longer than expected and I finished the site at 1:00ish. Here's where the starts.

Just invested nearly 72 hours of straight coding to a site in order to be able to deliver on a promise and finish around 1:00am - 1:06am I receive an email thanking me for the work I've already done on a subsidiary site and not to worry about the other site because he wants to leave the one I did for him over 2 years ago as is. Not clever. I got rather wound up.

Knowing that today was happening, I figured I'd just take a breath and get ready for bed so had a bath and shave and went to bed. Didn't go to sleep until nearly 3 with alarm set on phone for 8:30. 5 hours, I can rule the world on 5 hours, no problem.

4:48am, my phone beeps... "uuuuuuuuuuugggggggg...whattttttt??????????" It's an email... Another client's server crashed and I'm receiving the service failure notifications. So, yeah... I've been up - more or less - since 4:48am.

    • Now, I've had like 10 hours sleep in the past 3 days and may have to work a 10 hour day today at a new job.
    • I have to deal with client who doesn't understand he will NOT be keeping his old site, he WILL be getting the new one.
    • I think my ear infection is coming back because it feels like it did just before my other blossomed into a full blown "OH MY GOD I'M GOING TO DIE" ear ache.
    • I have what can only be described as a blinding headache
    • And I feel like a zombie.

I've taken 1500mg of Paracetamol and 1500mg of Ibuprofen and 60mg of codeine. I'm drinking a tea made with 5 tea bags and stewed for 5 mins and eating a bowl of porridge with banana. I'm considering if I have enough time to get to King's Cross to find some Crystal Meth and get back in time, failing that get 4 boxes of ProPlus...

Wouldn't you just love to be me right at this second?

Can you not act all surprised if they ask you to work today and say you weren't expecting it (preparing for your first day doesn't necessarily mean working your first day) and that you have family commitments at say 12 noon so you can go home and have a nap? I don't think they can expect you to work today if they haven't explicitly said you are starting today.

OMG! I so do NOT want to be you right now! And I thought being heavily preg with a baby that bounces on your bladder all night was hard work!

I hope today goes well...I really do. I am awful when over tired, and I find everything really hard so I hope you cope ok.

    Good luck

He's still waiting for the boss to turn up and tell him if he has the job 100% and he's on his 3rd espresso in the canteen.

I feel bad, we went to bed at 2am and I got a bit frisky....hence not going to sleep till nearly 3...
