New website gives you credit for being a smart consumer!

Coolaworld , a planet-saving shopping portal backed by media, finance, retail and environmental experts has been launched in the UK.

Coolaworld acts as a portal through which smart, consumers who care about the environment can shop at over a hundred big-name online retailers, including Apple, Marks and Spencer, The White Company, John Lewis and Vodafone, rewarding them with Coolacredits every time they make a purchase. These Coolacredits can then be spent by the Coolaworld shopper on in The Ethical Superstore, where a wide range of carbon cool & ethical products are available, or donated to benefit environmental projects such as Solar Aid, Waste Watch & Water Wise.

The portal uses technology similar to that used by AirMiles and Nectar Points, enabling consumers for the first time ever to “Shop & Save The Planet”. The process couldn’t be simpler: you log onto Coolaworld and click on the retailer you wish to shop with. Shop on the merchant’s site as normal and then once the transaction has been confirmed your Coolaworld account will be credited with Coolacredits.

If you then choose to donate your Coolacredits to benefit the Cool Projects you’ll be supporting a variety of environmental initiatives and charities including: Solar Aid, which brings solar energy to help poor communities in Africa fight climate change through sustainablity, Waterwise, a UK based water efficiency programme, STARO (Save the Amazon Rain Forest) & Tusk, which supports sustainable conservation and environmental education in Africa,

Founder Richard Kilgarriff came up with the idea for Coolaworld after taking a sabbatical from his job in television to work on a celebrity backed environmental campaign in 2007.
