    Thumbs up

If you've had/have SPD, did Physio work for you?

Acupuncture can take a while to work, I'm having it weekly too at the moment. It does take ages, have you talked to your Dr about anti inflammatories?

Glad you got the DLA though.

nhs phsyio was useless and they told me they could do no more to help me barr a support belt and crutches.... through the pelvic org, I was put in touch with Claire Woodward (based nr Glos) - she did help me - the change was enormous and after one session with her.. I could walk again - hadn't walked more than about 5-10 steps in 10-11 months(&#33.

I'm still having problems and pain - but nowhere near as bad as it was or as bad as you are suffering and I don't need painkillers anymore (so it can't be bad)... I'm seeing a consultant orthopedic surgeon next week to see what he can do to help - and tbh... feel he will tell me to go away and stop bothering him as I am so much better (though like I said not completley better) - feel a bit of a fraud....

Barbie - have you told the physio that you haven't noticed any benefit from his treatment? Just wondered what his response was... If osteo is best for you then go for it - it is what works for you that matters! I would keep your GP informed of your visits (so perhaps it can be noted down in your records for future care) - perhaps the osteo could write a report of treatment etc... for your medical records - at least it could then be referred back to and obviously shows your GP that you have had treatment...

:hug :hug :hug Hope the osteo can help soon

Hang on your physio is giving you acupuncture?!?!

NOOOOO I'm sorry but unless your physio is a qualified acupuncturist he's not going to help you. Given the severity and length you've had SPD you need serious treatment, physios do a 2 week course and thats it. My best friend from school spent 3 years training to do acupuncture there is a MASSIVE difference between what they learn. If you're serious about wanting acupuncture go to a proper one that does it full time. It makes me really cross when people do a bit of this and a bit of that and don't tell people that what they're doing is the full deal.

    Sorry rant over.

I started having Physio when I was first in the wheelchair with Holly's pregnancy at about 4/5mths. It was the Physio's that diagnosed SPD, when a number of others didn't know what was wrong with me, so I am grateful for that; but it didn't seem to do much good. I took a break nearer the birth, mainly because I couldn't move and I was in & out of hospital. I then re-started Physio 6wks after the Cesarian. A number of the exercises really hurt, but I carried on, mainly because the Physio gave me no choice & made me feel bad for complaining about the pain! She told me not to see a Osteo at the same time as her treatment, as it wouldn't help...after a number of months and no change in my symptoms-I was still in the wheelchair-I saw an Osteo; and I'm bloody glad I did! Osteo relieved the pain and stiffness in my joints almost straight away and it was then I realised that Physio was actually making me worse. I later found out that the exercises the Physio gave me I just should not have been doing considering I could barely walk. I made a complaint, but it went on & on, took loads of letters back & forth to the Chief Executive. I fund it all really quite depressing going over it all, but felt I had to get my point across before that Physio did anymore damage to another Mum. The only good thing to come out of my complaint is that the hospital Ante-natal & Labour wards now have detailed leaflets to hand out to Mums, whereas before they had no info on SPD!
Anyway, I know that Physio really set my recovery back both physically and mentally.
At the end of last year I couldn't stand my neck/back pain anymore and went back to the GP, who sent to to Physio! Same department, different Physio. I made sure I only went on the days my first Physio don't work-luckily she had children so only does 3 days.
Only thing is, this Physio's exercises are doing sod all also. He is not as bad as the 1st one at all; they exercises ae not making me worse this time, they are just not making any difference. Two good things came out of seeing this Physio; I have been having Acupuncture (had 4 treatments; very relaxing but not helping the pain yet) and it was the Physio who recommended I go on ADs partly because these particular ones, Amitriptyline may help to block my nervous system of pain signals from my neck & back. Apparently they are also used for patients who have have amputations. Only been on them 3wks but they aren't doing anything yet either.
Next week the Physio is going to start on my back (he has only treated my neck so far) but I really don't want him to! He hasn't sorted my neck pain out, the exercises are useless, and I don't see the point of him starting on my back when my neck is still the same. I am now considering not going back to Physio after I've finished the course of Acupuncture.
I have now got DLA through :clap , and the main reason I wanted it is that I can now go back to my Osteo; because it works for me. It's still a slow process, and I do have to go back every week, but it does relieve the tightness in my spine, even if it's just for a few hours sometimes.
Also I'm terrified this Physio is going to make my back worse, because of what the 1st Physio did, and I know this sounds a bit pathetic, but I feel very traumatized just going back to that department every week.
Only thing is...am I doing the right thing, cos really I'm refusing my GPs recommendation of Physio, and the help of the hospital. I don't want to be seen as giving up with the hospital. Also what do I say to the Physio? Sorry mate your Physio is useless, I'm off back to my trusty Osteo, thanks but no thanks!

Anyway, sorry I've really gone on again, but if your still reading this and haven't fallen asleep on your keyboard...what do you think?
Oh and my original question, If you've had/have SPD, did Physio work for you?
    Thanks :kiss xxx
