    SPD/Natural Birth?

    Hi
I am new to this site, someone recommended it to me as I've been recently diagnosed with severe SDP.
I am 26 weeks pregnant with my second child (a girl) we already have a 4 year old son.
Anyway, I was induced at 36 weeks with my son after being disgnosed with pre-eclampsia but I also had SDP then (but no where near as bad).
Anyway I wanted to know what the chances are of being offered a C Section this time due to being high risk pregnancy categorised.
I had my son in B'ham and was virtually offered a c-section on a plate but I opted to be induced and had him naturally (4 weeks early).
We have since moved and it seems different here in that it seems to me you have to convince a consultant you need a c-section rather than it automatically being an option.
I am seeing him again at 34 weeks.
I cannot imagine having to go through labour in this state - my back is so bad I am on crutches by mid-afternoon already!

Hello Susannah - Welcome to MO. Personally I have no experience with SPD - but I know Pie (She created this site) does - she is off line at the moment - but I am sure she will be able to give you some great advice.

You could look at the SPD threads - I will find you a link

Hello and welcome. I think I might have been the one to tell you about this site?

I had SPD with my last child and was in a wheelchair for much of the pregnancy. I basically told my consultant that if I wanted a c-section then I was going to have one but that I wanted to try a vaginal delivery first. I was then booked in for an induction the following week. The baby came 2 days later! I had her in the birthing pool on the labour ward.

Although I was in the wheelchair before and after I didn't notice the SPD pain whilst in labour. The water was fantastic as it left me weightless and supported.

I think if you go in on Crutches you really won't have a job convincing the consultant a c/s should be an option. But looking back for me personally I was glad I didn't as I can't imagine having SPD AND recovering from major surgery. But I think it's important, and I know it was for me, that the real severity of the pain was acknowleged and I had options.

I hope this helps a bit!

    Hello everyone
Thanks for all the advice, and yes, when I go to see the consultant on my crutches I think he'll find it hard to not acknowledge the problem!

    Hi Susannah

No personal experience but my friend had SPD with all three pregnancies and it actually got better in the third trimester. She had all three naturally and the third she had lying on her side because of the SPD, I had mine lying on my side too and it was pretty comfy so that might be something to think about. i think the point about recovering from major surgery AND still having SPD is a good one!

    Good luck
    Jennifer
