Ive just been reading through all the spd threads, :hug big hugs to all out there who are suffering.
I had this in my last pregnancy from about 3 months, I ended up going from crutches, to a wheelchair and found it very debilitating, as I couldn't get out of the house and I didnt have a computer then, so support was limited, dh was ok but he was going through some major health issues at the time as well so it was a struggle for us all.
I was very lucky to have an excellent midwife who supported me by visiting me nearly everyday, she was a lifeline and made a difficult situation a bit easier.

I had to leave my job and go on sick leave before starting maternity leave as I could no longer walk from the bus stop to my office, even with my crutches it was excruciating and would take me ages just to cover a short distance.
I was offered a c section and managed to recover slowely afterwards.
It seemed to get better over time and I decided that Im happy with my 2 cherubs and dont want any more children at the moment, Im 30 now so that may change in the future, although the thought of having spd again is better than any contraceptive to me.

I really feel for anyone whose going through what I went through I got very depressed as the constant pain and lack of sleep really got me down.

Im starting to get twinges again :scared which is a bit worrying had a bad night recently where I was in a bit of pain.

I hope you dont mind me rambling on about it, lots of people have no idea what it is and think Im telling them I had an std lol :bashhead
Im applying to uni at the moment and Im hoping to get a place to study midwifrey as I was so impressed with the treatment I got from my midwife.

Hi Strawberry! I too had (and still have) SPD pain during my second pregnancy, Holly was two on 12th Nov. It came on when I was about 4 mths :preggo and it got very bad, very quickly: I used crutches at first, then ended up in a wheelchair for a year. I still have back pain that can leave me in bed for days at a time. I do see an Osteopath, who really helps, but it is private treatment and I can't afford it as often as I need. I also saw a Physiotherapist, but it didn't help, in fact made me worse! Am so glad to hear your Midwife was helpful and supportive. My friends just stopped coming round cos I was always ill & couldn't go out & a lot of people don't want to know after a while-that was (and still is) a big shock! I haven't been using MumsOnLine for long but it has already given me more help, support & advice in a few weeks than my friends did over 3 years. DONOT worry about talking-I'm always ranting & whinging here-but I've been told that is what it is for, to help us share problems with sympathetic Mums. I have also got a little boy Oliver whos 5 & I didn't get SPD with his :preggo . Do you get any Osteo/Physio treatment now that you have twinges again? I too have been inspired by my "new pregnancy knowledge" and want to go onto do a course in either Midwifery or Childrens nursing. I studied Medicine before Oliver's pregnancy & Massage before Holly's pregnancy, so will go back to massage before doing nursing. I'm sorry to hear you are suffering again-I hope I can be of some help to you. :hug xxxx

Please ramble on Sally! And Barbie! Thats what this place is for. And hopefully we can draw support from knowing there are others around who understand how life changing this can be.

I'm pretty much in the same position as Barbie, still in pain etc.

Sally do you think you've recently ovulated? If you SPD was relaxin related levels of relaxin rise from ovulation till you have your period when they drop again.

I have to say I've worried that sometimes people think its and STD.

I really sympathise. I had no problems when I was pregnant, but my pelvis separated while I was giving birth. Had diamorphine, so didn't feel too much for several hours afterwards. Had to lie down and put legs in stirrups (which were too high!!) and they delivered my son by ventouse. I think that was when the damage was done. When physio came later on, she was insistant that I must have had pain while pregnant, kept inisisting!! Still wonder if the hospital were to blame, but will never know. Was "discharged" from physio dept of hospital and told things would settle down when I stopped breastfeeding!! I was in a lot of pain and not getting very much help. Eventually paid for private physio (6 months later) and it was wonderful. Whole pelvis was out of alignment. No wonder I could hardly walk!!! Physio I attended said that reason she had left NHS was that people like myself were discharged without the proper care. Don't think I'll have any more kids (I'm 38) and this is part of the reason. My son is now 3 and, generally, things feel ok. Sometimes when turning round in bed I can hear a bit of "cracking" and when I 'm tired, pelvis feels a bit achey. But my son was definitely worth it!!

Goodness me I feel like im not worthy of complaining of my mild SPD compared to all the rest of you.
Just found this thread which interested me as 15 months on from the birth of my daughter i still have bad days and until i found this discussion didnt really think i could STILL be afflicted by it!
Pie mentioned that its realted to ovulation - would def aggree as theres certain times in the month that the pain is worse!
Thank you all for making me realise im not going mad and it is (unfortunatly) still possible to be feeling the effects.

Is this why I get a really painful hip each month before my period and keep pulling tummy muscles more easily? I've only ever had that awful tummy muscle pulling pain during pregnancy but now I get it between ovulation and my period.

Did you have SPD when you were pregnant Sarah, it's highly unlikely you'd get SPD only with ovulation as hormone linked SPD is usually from a sustained amount of relaxin, not from ordinary ovulation.

Kathryn - hi and welcome! I think it's terrible that there's so little support when you're pregnant but it's non existent after - as if everything magically disappears. Hope you continue to recover though.

No I don't have SPD, well I think, looking back, I had it with Katherine. But I meant the relaxin thing I thought you meant it went up during ovulation and stayed up - I misunderstood. But I don't know why I'm getting such a bad hip every month - it has to be hormonal. I was thinking of posting about it when it was bad yesterday but I didn't in the end.

I have had SPD since july 2002 and my son was born in January 2003. Have any of you tried The Pelvic Partnership a really good web site, loads of info and support. I live in chelmsford and am in the process of having a meeting with the locao midwives to try and share my experience of SPD during after the birth and long term as at the moment there is no longterm support in this area via the NHS. If anyone else in this area would like to help please get in touch and of course if there are fellow sufferers any where I would be too happy to speak to you

    best of luck sarah

Hi everyone, I'm new to this but this looks like the problem I've been having. I think I had SPD since I was about 15 weeks- although I didn't need crutches/wheelchair, I was in almost constant pain, but the midwives just said I was getting old (I'm 31), and there was nothing they could do. Now my baby's 10 months and although it's a lot better my joints still click a lot- the doctor just keeps giving me iron tablets. Is there anything I can do?
