Too soon to ask to see a physio?

I suffered with SPD with my first pregnancy and my midwife ended up saying that it wasn't worth me going for physio - though if she had sent me when she first told me I had SPD there would have been plenty of time!!!

During this second pregnancy I've just started suffering with hip pain. I can't put any pressure on my right side, coughing and sneezing is agony (feels like something tearing inside) and walking is becoming painful - so much so that I'm putting off having to walk anywhere now. I think this is the beginning of SPD this time round. My next midwife appointment isn't for another 4 weeks so should I go and see my doctor/make an earlier midwife appointment and ask to be referred now before the agony really sets in???

    I would

Not really had this, thought I was getting it but it stayed mild thankfully but really I would try and push for all the help/treatment you can get, if only to stop it getting too much worse.

    Hope you get somewhere.

YES!!! The earlier the better, it's as much about prevention as treatment. In fact I would ring the physio dept and ask to speak to the Obstetric Physio urgently to ask her how best to refer you.

I agree, managing SPD is as much about avoiding permanent damage as dealing with the pain. See your GP, then if you don't get an appointment soon, ring the physio.

Def. Your GP can refer you. Do it asap. TBh I found that seeing an osteopath has een far more benficial than the physio I was seeing at first. I suffer hip pain aswell as SPD and it is caused by an inflamed sacro illiac joint due to th pg hormones. My physio told me to excersise it which made it x100 worse whereas the osteopath does massage and recommende ice and rest which has helped no end. I've also ordered these on her recommendation and am waiting for them to come. will let you know if they help. HTH.
