My appointment was brought forward by a day so I went this morning.

Before I went I knew the following things: my SPD has become Osteitis Pubis. This is a growth and inflammation of the pubis bones. I knew that some Dr's in America have experimented with steroid injections directly into the bone, but that there had been no conclusive evidence this worked. I knew that in one major study the longest recovery time was 48 MONTHS.

Well I had my appointment with the head honcho, head of the Department at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, a well respected Dr.

He confirmed what I knew about my diagnosis. He confirmed that Steroid treatment was highly controversial. He said they had one other option and that was to surgically scrape the bone growth off my pelvis.

However he wasn't prepared to do either the steroids or the surgery. Both treatments, especially the surgery, would leave my pelvis significantly weakened and thinned. Firstly I was young and secondly I would like another child, either scenario with surgery or steroids would leave me wide open to pelvic fractures, just from daily activity or a pregnancy/labour. So both are out the window.

I asked what would happen if I had another child. He said he had never seen a woman with this condition who braved another pregnancy so he couldn't say. But the injury is very much like a stress fracture and as with all stress fractures you can get them again or not even with the same conditions, so he couldn't say. He could say that even if I got it again I wouldn't get it any worse, thats because I got it as bad as it gets, if that makes sense.

He said he would be prepared to guarantee that I will get better, but that it will take YEARS. All I can do is the physical therapy and take painkillers and he's ruled out the other options (and he reasons make sense to me). And to treat it as stress fracture (Actually I don't know what they are ) to rest it, not push it and not exercise. He's discharged me back to my GP, but will see me if it gets worse.

    So there you go!

How do you feel about that?

From here I guess at least he held out some hope and you are still OK to have a baby if you want to "brave" it which is good if you can control the pain.

Well I have decided on a plan.

    1. I have my 30th birthday (just under 2 years).
    2. We have moved.
    3. DH has steady job.
    4. Ana is at nursery.
    5. DH gets me a 10 night luxury tropical holiday for just the 2 of us for 30th birthday present.
    6. Holiday marks beginning of TTC #3

I have to run this by him of course...

On a serious note I am both reassured by the reassurances of recovery eventually but feel like I could cry for the lack of a quick fix, which I was sort of hoping for.

the plan looks great Pie, It gives you a bit of breathing space and some more time to heal.

Its good to keep your options open!
