    Cleaning curtains?

What's the best way to clean curtains? I have removed most of the cat hair, but the creamy/white lining is still fairly grubby. Can I just stick them in the washing machine? They are proper curtain curtains, rather than ones I made from normal material. Thanks for any help here!!

Or if you have a steam cleaner, try that? I know we can use the steam cleaner on our faux suede settees as long as a constant sweeping motion is used and not staying in one spot for any length of time for the vapour to penetrate so I presume it'd be the same with curtains even if they're dry clean only.

I put mine in the machine. they are havy lined damask type ones from dunelm. They say dry clean only. Stuff that! I did a cool, minimal agitation wash, and bunged 'em on the line on a sunny day!!

I think if they are lined the reason they recommend dry cleaning is in case either the curtain or the lining shrinks as they won't hang properly again. Depending on how old they are and how much they would cost to replace if it does worng, youmight want to risk a cool wash

Thanks - they are quite new, but not expensive, so I am still unsure. I would rather not dry clean them but am thinking it's the best option. Will have a think....
