I had pre eclampsia from very early on in my pregnacey with Olivia, i spent about 3 months in hospital, (at one stage megisabel was in the bed opposite&#33then was induced when i was 34 weeks, dd was born by emergancey section after 12hrs of labour! Olivia was quite sick, but a little fighter and left hospital 3 weeks later, and has just celebrated her 1st birthday bless.

Anyway back to the point my pregnacey was sheer hell, i hated every moment of it and vowed never to do it again! i am still on bp tablets now as my bp has still not settled back down, the doc recons it will eventually. I never wanted a only child, but would hate this experience again as i was very sick and things could of ended very differently. DP said we should be thankful for what we have and doesn't think we should have any more if there was a risk of the same happening again, i was just wondering if anyone had went on to have more children and if this did happen again or what would be the chances of it happening again?

Pre-eclampsia is not JUST about blood pressure but more importantly about protein in the urine. Just high BP is not pre-eclampsia.
Pre-eclampsia is typically a "disease" of first pregnancies - that doesn't mean you won't have it again but it is unlikely. I think - if I were you - I would seek proper medical advice on this one.... before ruling out another pregnancy.

Poor Ollie when she had it, felt ever so sorry for her - she had the very high BP, high protein readings and swelled up like nothing i have seen before - as soon as she had ollie her face starting to down again and became recognisable again - it was pretty awful - feet, fingers, face, tongue etc all swelled up

:hug Ollie, sounds horrid. As Pupuce said, it is generally thought of as a first pregnancy thing...though if you have a child with a different father, interestingly I think, your chances of having it are the same as if it were your first child. But generally you are less likely to get it with a subsequent pregnancy. Anyway. Have you talked to your GP about it? Or maybe you could ask to be referred to a GYN to discuss it if you do want to know about all your options.

I too had pre-eclampsia but not as bad as you, poor thing.

I had the big swolen feet from about 30 weeks then at about 32 weeks my blood pressure started creeping up and I had to leave work sooner than I would have liked. At 35 weeks, they admitted me to hospital with scary blood pressure and kept me in as it wouldn't go down. As soon as protein showed in my urine, they induced me - at 37 weeks. DS was poorly at first too. But I also had to stay in hospital as my bp wouldn't go dow. tried many varieties of tablets. Now off them 20 months later but have to have regular bp tests - I am on the high end of the normal range.

My GP (who is wonderful and I have also taught his daughter&#33 says that it is mainly 1st pregnancies. I am defintiely having another - 4 more if I lived in the ideal world!
Chat to your gp about it.
