Thread: Nuchal scan - bladder advice please!!

Some quick advice would be very much appreciated from any early birds.... I'm going for my nuchal scan this morning. We need to leave before the switchboard opens... Do I need a full bladder? The literature from the hospital says nothing and a google search gives conflicting advice!!

As far as I'm aware most hospitals say different things, I had to have a full bladder with my first at both scans but with this one they had better equipment and at my 12 wek scan I didn't have to have a full bladder at all and got really good clear pics.
If I were you I'd go with a full bladder, you can always check before you go in and if they say no you can just go to the loo!

I drank as much as I could before I went but it probably wasn't full bladder. The leaflet from the hospital that I got didn't tell me either. Good luck with your scan

Excellent advice - thanks! Will struggle through with my bladder full and hope they don't make us wait over an hour this time!!

I agree a full bladder is the safer option.
You can always empty it when you get there if it is not neccesary

I actually had to go and empty mine as they couldn't see dd ! Just make sure you have a drink at least half an hour beforehand.
