Midwife just left me a ton of stuff....

My midwife just came round and left me a load of things. I have 2 bottles of entonox, one of oxygen. There's a big yellow bucket, presumably for the placenta as it says "anatomical waste" on it......Also a big clear lidded box with what looks like medical instruments etc in it. There is also a back briefcase thing which I am not going to investigate on the grounds that I probably don't really want to know what is in it!

I have my big shower curtain and I need to aqcuire some more towel type things.

Ooh, so excited! Now all I need is the contractions!!

Exciting stuff! Black briefcase sounds interesting - how can you resist?
Are you going to have a go on the entonox tonight then?

Might have to "test" the entonox later...LOL! Except the regulator thingy isn't attached and the mouthpiece is in a sealed bag so they will know what I have been up to.
Right....I am going to see if the black briefcase is unlocked.......wish me luck ladies (I bet its something really boring...!!)

OK.....it contains (not an exhaustive list.......)

    syntometrine
    ergometrine
    vit K
    syringes
    needles
    sutures
lignocaine and various other scary looking items which I am leaving well alone. Eek!

And on the other side is several tape measures and a Harrogate District Hospital guide to "post natal exercises"

Oh, and some very large tweezers.....bizarre

The tweezers will be 'forceps' for suturing (if you need any) LOL

    Mmm.....lovely! Stitches, I remember those.

I just thought. I read the small print on the big yellow bucket and it says "in conjunction with placentabag provided". Destroy by incineration. So its a really big bucket. Much bigger than a placenta (or at least I bloody hope so otherwise I'm all placenta and no baby!). Do they incinerate the whole thing? Because if they do that for every placenta delivered, isn't that a lot of plastic burning away in hospital incinerators? Doesn't seem very environmentally friendly. Maybe I should ask if I could bury it in the garden or something.

Yep they will burn the lot, big bucket and all. Certainly not very eco friendly but reduces risk of cross infection. You certainly could ask to bury it but you'd need to seal it in a plastic tub and dig deep as foxes love the smell! lol

Perhaps not such a good idea given that we have a big open field and woods behind our house and not short on wildlife. Bummer! Not sure I like the idea of a fox coming into the garden and snuffling it all up again. Hmm....
