Hmm .... I had no pain relief with my first three (more because I was scared of it making me puke than being a martyr lol!!) and the pain wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be, never unbearable iyswim? However, were it not for my fear of vomiting maybe it would have been a different story and I am glad the choices were there ....
I had an emergency c-sect with DS, knocked out on general
With DD4 I had to have a c-sect so had it with a spinal block so I could be awake. Ultimate pain relief in a way lol!

Three very different styles of birth, but I never felt any less close to any of them, iyswim, so it kind of jugs that idiot's opinions right out the window as far as I'm concerned!

I went in with an open mind for DD1 - didn't intend to take any but was willing if it got too much. And as she was stuck, it was too much...

Have not had a problem bonding with either, despite the very different deliveries. The love was instantaneous (although I already had it whilst PG!)!!!

Having Imogen was horrendous and I bonded instantly.

However, I was so traumatised with the pain and everything they had to do to me when I had Alex that I didn't want to hold him for several minutes after the delivery so the theory is bollocks imo.

I was the same with dd - had gas and air only - and was so traumatised by the whole ordeal (not just the pain but my treatment by a wicked wicked midwife - I didn't hold dd for the first couple of hours of her life - I was utterly beside myself and so traumatised I cried and cried for hours!

Having said that - the minute I did hold her - I loved her more than anything else in the world!

It's awful isn't it? For months after when I was on my own so no one could see me & think I was silly (usually in the shower) I'd cry like mad. But yes, we get over it don't we

We do get over it - but I do think that is part of the reason I only have one.
