I need help in preventing blisters - how? what can I wear? how can I stop them?

Seriously. This is becoming a really big issue for me on hot holidays.

In the past I have always gotten blisters, especially when it is hot and I am out and about. In New York I got blisters and ended up with plasters and moleskin in my shoes.

In Florida last week it was dreadful. I had blisters in double figures on both of my feet - on the sole, under each toe where they join my foot, between my toes, on the bottom of my little toes, ont he sides of my big toes, on top of my feet, ont he bottom of my heels, etc. I ended up with my feet in bandages as they were so bad. Each step was pretty painful, and by the end of the day my feet were burning hot.

I am off to Las Vegas next May and I will have to wear proper shoes at least for the day of my sister's wedding. I cannpt face another holiday f blister nightmare.

Basically the problem is caused, I think, by my feet being very hot, them sweating, they they get moist (yuk!) and they also swell up.

Please help me solve this problem!!!

    Hula that's awful for you!

I would say that if you are wearing shoes that normally give you no problems it is more a matter of water retention making your feet swell triggered by the flight and not going back down due to the heat as you said. When I jog and power walk I wear special socks that is kind of a sock in a sock which stops your trainer and foot rubbing. I would say invest in some cool looking trendy shoes for walking (as you do lot of this on hols) and wear these special socks from the specialist sports shop. Get a cooloing foot el as well and carry it with you.

I know you want to wear nice sandals etc on holiday but save these for special occasions on the holiday and in the evening.

If you can put your feet in iced water in the morning and inte evening and drink loads of water to counteract the water retention (which is worse f you dont drink enough as your body holds onto the water you already have in your body)

Have a look at El Naturalista shoes. They are super comfy and I have neevr got a blister from them. You can get trendy nice looking shoed you can wear socks with if you really shop around.

Will have to look at the shoes I guess, hmmm. Not so bad for places like Florida when in shorts, but to wear with dresses and skirts???

I do drink a lot of water on holiday - think we spent over £300 on water in Flroida and I have peppermint cooling sprays and creams which I use morning and night, plus during the day intermittently.

This holiday is was my Birks that gave me the initial blisters. I wear these day in day out at home no problem. In New York it was my Converse pumps. This holiday I even resprted to buying Crocs to get me through - but although they were more comfy to walk on with the blisters, they too gave me blisters ont he top of my feet and on one of my big toes. In the past in Florida I have tried trainers and socks and sports type pump/sandals, even bught them there to no avail.

You will have to be a style guru and start a trend of wearing shoes with socks with dresses

It does sound like you have tried everything tbh. Did you know you should wear shoes half a size larger in hot countries? I found this out recently when my friend was buying loads of new shoes and she told me her chiropaedist friend told her that! I guess it makes sense as the woman who fitted me for trianers in the specialist sprts shop said I had to get a par half a size bigger than my normal size to allow for my foot to swell when training.

I would suggest something like a pair of Teva sandals. They are strapped to your foot more firmly than birks or crocs. Comfortable to wear, don't look too bad with a skirt.

Yes Starry; heard that. My Birks and the Crocs I got are both bigger than I normally wear because of this - not that they helped. Argh. I am only a size 3 normally as it is, lol.

Looks like it is going have to be walking sandals doesn't it?!

I am sure I could get blisters walking barefoot.

I would second the Tevas - mine are wonderful and so comfy and I have even semi-climbed in them with no blisters. They also look ok with skirts etc. However, I don't tend to suffer with blisters so.....

Hope you can find a solution.
