    Bless my dd!!!

Dd has a severe nut allergy as as she has grown older particularly in the last year she has questioned time and again why she can't eat or try certain foods - obviously this is to do with her allergy but she hardly challenged it before - just took my word as gospel.

Anyway since joining year 3 at school she has pestered and pestered me to be able to have a school dinner (she has always had a packed lunch up until now) So I called the school and spoke to the cook and arranged that Dd could have a school lunch and they would ensure it was nut free checking everything including oils etc used.

So - dd has now had a school lunch 3 times and each time she has had it I have asked her what she had for lunch (there are 3 choices) and what she had for pudding. Each time I have asked what she has had for pudding she has said an apple. Now Dd would not choose an apple over some delicious pudding on offer so I said "Doesn't the dinner lady let you have a pudding" thinking they were just airing on caution and dd replied "No it was Jelly for pudding and I didn't know what oil they had used in it so I had an apple"

Love her little heart - I did explain after there was no oil in Jelly but I am so proud of her for thinking about it and making the safest choice!!!

    Aw bless her
Good that she is being sensibly cautious though.
Can you find out what the menu is in advance so that you can advise her what is suitable?

We find out what the menu is week on week at the start of term so she knows what is on offer before we decide if she is going to have a school lunch or not. The school does have a nut free policy - but there are so many different names for nuts I am not totally sure it can be completely nut free - so we are careful about what choice she makes - and I ring the school cook to let her know dd's choice
