    Question Hayfever relief and breastfeeding

    Help! What can I take????
I keep sneezing whilst feeding ds and he comes off and gives me the filthiest looks!
We have his 6 week check (at 7 weeks!) tomorrow and I might ask the doc if theres anything I can have, the pharmacist at the chemist says I can't have anything!

Most drugs won't be classed as safe to be taken for breastfeeding mothers purely because they haven't been tested on women who are breastfeeding. So what you normally take could well be safe.

Breastfeeding Network have good information on things that can or cannot be taken when bf, see the pdf here on bf'ing.

I bought an air purifier from Lloyds pharmacy for £10 and it works brilliantly. I stop sneezing within about 10 minutes when I turn it on. Obviously that is only any good when you are in your own home but worth a try. Oh I just looked at their webpage and they don't seem to have them in at the moment but they are good to get from anywhere I guess.

I suffered with this Bubs and looked it up in tne bfeeding and drugs pharmacopia. You can take Loratadine antihistamine safely in breastfeeding.
If you ask the pharmacists they will say you can't take anything but you CAN def take this

Feel for you bubs, mine has just started up and it is hideous. I didn't take anything when I was still breastfeeding and it was such a pain so I am not much help I am afraid, just wanted to empathise.

I suffered very badly with hayfever last year - I put up with it for ages because I knew I wouldn't be able to take anything but when my eyes closed up and it affected my breathing I did go. I was prescribed Loratadine. If I remember rightly it made Daniel a bit sleepier than usual (not a bad thing!) and it did help.

Have you thought about homoepathic remedies? No advice, just something I'm considering.

    Try 'Haymax'

Its a balm that you put beneath the nostrils which catches the pollen before it enters the nose, so stopping or reducing the symptons.

www.spiritofnature.co.uk are stocking it....but a really good local health place may be able to get it?

Well went to the docs yesterday and there is nothing I can have, he even said no to the Loratadine.
Hes given me eye drops and thats it.
The only other solution is to stop feeding so I can take proper stuff, but I think I'd rather suffer than stop feeding my baby. Lets hope i doesn't get too bad.

Go to Helios Bubs ... they can give you some advice on homoeopathic remedies. I am currently taking stuff for this cold that I have and still feeding DS2.
