It is unlikely to be the carpets - does your mum or dss mum have any pets?

my dd would always be poorly with her asthma after visiting her grandma. bad enough to see the gp each time. they have no pets. they kept a very clean home. we could never figure out what it was about grandma's house that triggered it. until they changed their living room rug. it was a big old chinese silk rug, very deep and luxurious. once that was gone, grandma's was never a problem. sooooo, in my opinion, yes, carpets can be a trigger.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them.

It won't be the carpets - it is more likely (and not wanting to disrespect anyones cleanliness) to be house dust mites - which are invisible to the eye - but found in all homes in carpets bedding etc.

Yep - they can test for HDM allergy. Where is she going for tests - is it a hospital referral?
