Thread: What age do you start potty training?

Mollie was 24 months and amongst her nursery friends that was quite early.

She had been showing an interest for about 6 months before that, but just after she turned 2y one day she just said she wanted big girl pants. She was a bit sore from her nappy that day so I let her go bottomless and she pnly had a couple of accidents or so. She totally led it herself. She chose herself som big girl pants the next day. We had a couple of accidnets initia;ly but within 3 or 4 days she was dry, and clean too wellwithin the week. We did nap times at the same time, and she remained dry when asleep during the day too.

I do think because it was led by Mollie and her idea it made life very easy for me. And it was very quick too.

Night time dryness however.....hmmm. Still not there completely! And not for her want of trying or her desire to be dry either. Can go weeks and weeks and then have accidents, just like last night infact. Argh!

If nappy changes are a battle, pull ups work wonders. Just rip the old one off and pull new ones up over legs (unless of course you use cloth nappies).

Another key thing is (or at least what I found) was that H would flood her nappy and soak her clothes around potty training time. That suggested to me she'd learned to hold her urine and was weeing too much at once for the nappy to cope with.

The older generation will always argue that potty training should be done from a much younger age. MIL told me she had her son trained at 11 months. She even made him sit on a potty at the dinner table. It's hardly potty training if you are forcing a child to spend half their lives on a potty is it? If they can't control their bladders of course they'll leak into the potty making it appear as though training is working.
