Thread: won't get off the potty!

Have tried twice now to potty train my three year old. He wants to use it and wants to wear his big boy pants but refuses to get off the potty!

He sat there for three hours yeasterday watching his brother play without moving, and when I lifted him off and pulled pants up he screamed and asked for potty again!

at nursery this morning he got upset and asked for his nappy!

what do I do?

Could he be finding it difficult to go? Is he constipated?

Might be worth upping his fruit and water intake, make it easier for him??

I believe it's more of a "mental" thing. Maybe it has to do with the fact that kids feel like they are giving up some of their "property" when you flush the toilet. I remember we had difficulties and all that helped was another distraction (like the dinosaur that was chasing his beloved teddybear...).

Have you tried to simply talk to him about it when you bring him to bed and read him a bedtime story? Or buy a book with a potty-story, that might make it easier for him to get used to "how to potty".
