After talking to a friend about my concerns over just what my kids were doing online, if they were getting themselves into potential touble, she recommended a software program that I've since bought and think is amzaing. Now I feel like I have a touch of control over something that i had always felt has no boundaries and offers so many ways for a curious teen to find trouble, not even meaning to.
I always talk to my kids about different online stuff, have rules, caution them on this and that...but the truth is, I can't keep up with all that is out there and all that I hear kids today are getting into. I'm no prude - I just want to have a better handle on what they're up to online - they're good kids, but they don't tell me all and they always think nothing bad will happen to them. I'm not just talking porn or predators type of stuff, but other things that could embarrass or hurt them...
So this program - Family Cyber Alert (there are probably others) logs all the PC activity - times, how long on, websites, everything. I don't plan to snoop on their private communications, but a couple times a week I just glance at what they've been into, and if i see something odd or alarming, i check it out a bit to see if it's anything that I should be talking with them about, or learning more about myself first, so i can have a coversation with the kids about it.
Anyway - I think its awesome - curious if anyone else is familiar with it, uses it, or something similar, and what they think.
