True jobs from home are quite few and far between, the main rule of thumb is not to pay any money out to get a job. The envelope stuffing or addressing is a big scam.

Other types of jobs are Direct Sales, like Usborne Books, Avon, Body Shop etc etc, and although your home is your base, you do need to get out and about to sell. They normally ask for money up front to start, but this is normally a minimal amount and covers your kit.

The money from this type of work is very varied, it depends on your sales etc, and you will be self employed.

One thing to consider if you go down this route is whether in the current economic climate people will have spare cash to buy your product.

Are you any good at making things? A lot of people on here make and sell items, this could then become a business from home.

    Good luck

I agree Sarah has covered pretty much everything in her post, have you had a look at netmums as they have a section that pretty much covers this?

If you wanted to start your own business its normal to not make a profit for the first 2 years so this may not be an option?

    This site is really useful.

Stats show most people working from home either do telemarketing or some kind of web-based self employment.

I'm one of the lucky few who is employed by a company to work from home
