IME of bullying schools just don't want to deal with it properly; and for your son to continue being unhappy is no real solution.

I would cc the board of governors into any correspondence that you send the LEA as they should know the seriousness of the problem that is going on in school.

I'd seriously consider ringing the police and I would be telling the school that this will be my next course of action if they are not going to prevent my child being treated in this way. Even if you call them initially to get some advice to see what they would do if these boys are formally reported.

late coming to this but you could make contact with the home-ed groups anyway and see if you can introduce David to some home-ed teens so that he doesn't think he's not going to ever see anyone again if he does decide he's had enough.

What the school are suggesting as a solution is just rubbish. Give him a 15 min start and tell him to run for it? Sick! It's much more than just a bullying problem isn't it, if you're saying its the worst school in the country and the teachers are locking themselves in cupboards. I think you should get on to your MP, the police, get support from other parents, whatever it takes. If it was me in that situation I would be telling my son I'm sorry but you are still under age and I am saying you are not going to school, we will find a way for you to have a social life, through other home schoolers, clubs, friends home, whatever. Why hasn't the school been shut down or put under special measures or something? It's not fulfilling its purpose. Absolutely appalling.

Thank you all for your support, once again .... you have been like a lifeline through this appalling time we have been going through.

David, through his own decision, went back in to school today. He was terrified and happy all at the same time. Throughout the last week I have enlisted the help of the police, the local MP, various councillors and the deputy mayor as well as the LEA and, together, we are going forward ... so far.
I sent a letter into the school via recorded delivery so it arrived pretty much the same time as David did this morning, and also circa'd the LEA and his consultants at the hospitals he's still associated with so everyone involved knows the score. I have said he WILL do a full day without fear, he WILL go out for breaks and lunchtimes to play football if he chooses and he DESERVES to be educated with no recriminations whatsoever.

Today went well, his friends were over the moon to see him, tomorrow ....well, we will wait and see - but everyone now knows my intentions if it all goes belly-up, so no-one can say I wasn't supportive of the system, and no-one can ever say that we didn't give it our best shot.

I hope I have done the right thing, if not, then everyone knows what I plan to do to rectify the situation.

    You're all

I think you are doing everything you can and hopefuly David will be able to go to school without experiencing any more intolerable behaviour.

I'm really glad that his day went well, hopefully tomorrow will be the same too.
