    Parking in London

Planning to visit Greenwich observatory next Sunday and since it's last minute trains are too expensive so we'll drive. Now I know there's no congestion charge on weekends so that just leaves parking.

Will we get in a near ncp or similar? Or is there somewhere we can park and get the tube? What district might have free parking (non permit)? I don't mind paying for parking in Greenwich though and that would probably be my preference really.

And finally, what is there for eating round Greenwich, is it like central London in that there is food everywhere or less touristy like that? Will take pack-up if necessary but not if there something like kfc near!

    Any advice welcome thanks :-)

There is paid for parking at the Observatory ..... ticket machine kind of parking, if that helps? IIRC the prices weren't that bad either.
Not sure about food in the local area, we always take sarnies it's also very steep to climb back up from where the shops are; huge green hill and steep paths.

If you fancy it take the hover-boat-river taxi thing over to the O2 and use the restaurants in there, thats what we did when we went to the observatory, but we came by train and too the river taxi to Greenwich instead of the tube. FIL would know where to park, he had suggested driving up when we went. I will ask him xx

There always used to be nice places to eat in Greenwich - but that was 15 odd years ago so it may have changed! But if anything, I would have thought it would have got more gentrified with nicer places to eat.

And I always used to park in Deptford, about a 10 min walk down the road outside my student halls. It was free, but again anything could have changed! Helpful, aren't I?!

CAn I suggest you pre-book the planetarium tickets and get down there in good time for the showing, it's a free for all........ it gets very busy!

My sister & I drove down to see Prince @ the 02 a couple of years ago. The drive was fairly ridiculous as we fought our way through the last 5 miles, that was around 4.30pm though so perhaps in hindsight should have avoided rush hour
