    Is this normal?

    Hi all,
Have a few concerns with my 10month baby boy......

Although he is my third child people think I should know what I'm doing but to be honest it's like having my first all over again....
He was a big baby (9lb 15oz) but has struggled to gain weight, let me add he's never lost weight, but only gained like 1-2lb in 1-2 months, he's now weighed 18lb 13oz, my other two children were both normal birth weights (7lb 13oz & 6lb 11oz) and were both well over 20lb by now. Baby eats well 3meals a day and has two full bottles, one at breakfast and one before bed. He's never been a sicky baby where as the othe two were projectile vomitors, h/v say they are happy with his size as he looks healthy!! Also he is a very sensitive baby with sound and people, he will just scream at members of my family who he sees regular which can be quite embarrassing as a parent as the baby can't say what's wrong, I'm due to go over to my aunts who he has major issues with and I'm actually dreading it!! H/v again says he's fine and always writes in the red book "mother has no concerns" like I've just said nothing to her, it's really frustrating just to be fobbed off, I know I'm no doctor but mothers instinct is usually quite accurate. Don't just want to go see the doc yet as he is only 10months and there's not really alot they can do at this age, just wondering if anyone can relate to any of this??

Also let me add, he's a very bright baby and also very active, wears me out just watching him. He finds it very hard to stay still, singing nursery rhymes-impossible, reading books are too impossible as he just doesn't have the patience!

    Hi Rach!

I've got no experience, sorry. But, the crying at people for no apparent reason even though he liked them last week thing is quite common I think at that age. If he's drawing a nice steady line up the graph in his red book and his weight centile is about the same as his length centile, I wouldn't be too worried about that, they're all different. My second hit the 98th centile for his length whilst being below the 50th for weight at one point when he was a baby, and I thought I'd bred a basketball player, but he's now perfectly average at 6yo! Which leaves the "very active" bit... I don't want to sound like I'm fobbing you off, but he is so young, like you say there's not much they can "do" at this age, so don't put yourself through the mill convincing yourself there must be something wrong with him. Maybe he is just bright. He has two older siblings to make his life exciting, maybe he just isn't going to be the "sitting down quietly with a book" type. He's just getting mobile, yes? Maybe he just finds that far more interesting at the moment than singing nursery rhymes. You haven't said anything about him being difficult as a younger baby, not settling down to feed, not sleeping, anything like that. I would say just try and enjoy things with him and see how he pans out over the next few months

Also, reading between the posts here, did you find things difficult with the first two and were perhaps a rather quieter sort of mum and they responded to that by being quieter babies, and this one is responding to a you with more of a zest for life?

    Hi god,
Thankyou for replying, I'm not overly concerned it's just that he's very different to my first two, with my oldest having a different father to my two youngest you'd think he would of been different. He's never liked my aunt :-/ always in hysterics when she's around! I think as he was a very big baby people just expect him to be big now, my cousins baby is 15wks younger and now weighs more than mine haha. He's on the 25th centile and his height has never been done, don't think it was done when he was born :-/ when I had my first two I still lived with my parents so I'd say there was more going on there than there is here, half the time it's just me and the baby as the other two are at school and nursery, I wouldn't say I was much different now to what I was a couple of years ago, more confident socially but still quite a shy person.

You can never compare them, I mean it's kind of fun to sometimes, but you can never tell what it is that's made the difference or if it's just personalities. If I was my mother in law at this point I would say "oh there you are then, it's because it's just you and the baby he's got all your attention" and completely ignore what I said previously!

I knew someone whose nine month old was walking, I mean proper walking, it was quite scary to watch. Good luck with that!

Oh and no need to call me god, it's Jen! ;-)

It's prob because I was taking anxiety meds when I was pregnant with him, I really don't know, all I know is he's already hard work haha, maybe he will be good as gold when he's older he's not very affectionate either, but when he is I could hold him and never let go as those times don't come very often, most of the time all you get is a high five haha. I am enjoying it alot as with the older two being at my parents I didn't really feel like a mum and I'm 28 lol. So it is nice not having anyone interfere!

Haha god, I did find it strange writing it, like I was actually talking to him hahaha I can't even edit my profile on my iPhone :/ tried in safari but it wouldn't let me log in!

    Thanks Jen

    Rach
