What age do you have the"talk" with your child?

My dd1 is 10, nearly 11 and is fast becoming a tweenager, I know I should really have the chat with her but have been putting it off.

I think she may have a vague idea, she will be having sex ed at school next term and she has been watching too much eastenders.

Any tips would be much appreciated

she probably knows alot more than you think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just followed my daughters lead.... & when she asked anything then was open & honest with her.... for well over 18 months now if ever I raised an issue with her...she told me what I was going to say..proving that most of the time they know more than you think!

My daughter knew about periods etc through us talking etc.... & when the day arrived she felt she could tell me....

follow her lead a bit I would say, but we are all different!

Mollie has a couple of books with age appropriate text and images, which she occasionally gets out and looks at. Not sure how much she takes in but she doesn't want me to read it with her as such. I have done a couple of times when asked, but kind of skimmed over the actual mechanics of sex, with her as she was only 6y at the time. The books do go into a little more detail if she has read it. She knows a little about periods as it came up in conversation once. I tend to answer her questions as and when they arise, but find that she only wants the bare details at the moment. So, she knows that babies require mum's egg and dad's seed, and then have to get together somehow, and that the baby grows from the egg in mum;s womb, and comes out of a special hole, etc. But not gone into how seed and egg meet as yet.

    lol ladies! behave now...

Found a book on amazon that should help the discussion along, called girls only.

She is growing up so fast and I want her to be prepared. Can't believe she will be going to high school in September.
