Changeover Day - and I have the hump!!

Dd has gone to school today for changeover day - without knowing who her new teacher is or who else is going to be in her class.

I am so cross that we haven't be told before today who her teacher is going to be. I really want to make a complaint to the school - but am I over reacting? In previous years we have always been told in advance of change over day.

Why do they do that now? In this term?

Do you mean she gets to spend time with her new class/teacher for a few hours?

I think it's poor that you don't know in advance, make you think it's all a bit cloak and dagger doesn't it? We found out last week who the boys are having they need the advance warning too.

We weren't told either and I am pretty cross about it, but I am going to let things be. We were given a date way back when, and that was it. Last week, after the day, class lists appeared on the wall and DD1 is moving into a class with 1 of her friends - out of a group of about 6 of them. The other mum is thinking of complaining but I think at her age (DDs) that hopefully she will make new friends. I don't know. But I don't think you are over reacting.

They spend the whole day in their new classrooms with their new Teacher and class mates - Dd doesn't seem overly concerned that she doesn't know who her teachers is (although she has stated she doesn't want the strict one ) - but she is quite apprehensive about who will be in the class with her. I think I am going to complain because there were so many ways they could have let us know before now. School reports were out last week with no mention of Yr 4 classes.

But I think the reason I am so irked is that - the school sometimes uses text's to communicate news to parents or send reminders about remembering swimming kits etc. Yesterday the school was shut due to a gas leak so - we were texted to be told the school was shut - fine. We were then sent a text to say the school would be open today - fine. Then we were sent text asking us not to forget to bring in Bottles/Packets/Tins for the tomobola!!! So if they had planned on sending notes home yesterday but couldn't due to the school closure - couldn't they have text us the information? I am so mad - I need to calm down before I fire off an inappropriate email!!

Calm down before you do anything and then let me know what you put - I may copy you!

    What about this?

    Dear ****,

I feel compelled to write this email to express how very disappointed I am about the information I haven't received about change over day.

We received a school letter last week saying we would receive this information during this week, which didn't happen.

D***** has gone to school today very apprehensive about her visit to year 4 as we have not been informed of who her new teacher will be and which of her classmates may or may not be joining her in her new class. I have been unable to help her prepare for today due to the lack of information received. I am sure D***** will enjoy her day once she is in her new classroom, but I do think it would have been more beneficial and less stressful for D***** , if she had known in advance whose class they would be in. This has always happened in previous years.

Not sure how to sign it off though - without being offensive - LOL! Calming down is not one of my strong points!!

What about adding this at the end?

I understand that for reasons beyond your control the school was closed yesterday, however text's were used to communicate to parents. Maybe this could have been applied to inform parents of the missing information I have mentioned above?

How about adding then: However, I am unclear why this information cannot have been provided in a timely fashion/manner, at the beginning of the week, in order to give parents and children sufficient time to prepare for today which would have avoided this.

We never know who their class teacher will be or if they are remixing classes/sets until after the kids. Normally the younger ones spend a morning or afternoon with new teacher but this year dd's (Yr5 in Sept)was out on a trip (with ds) that day so even that didn't happen. They just take it in their stride tbh, parents get more wound up, but I can undestand your frustration if you have been led to expect info beforehand.
