Every year, without fail, our nearest and dearest - out of the kindness of their heart (or at least their sense of obligation) - treat us with presents that they think we'll like.
Try as we might to force the smile and the enthusiastic "Thank you, it's lovely", we just know it will sit in the cupboard for X amount of years until the next clear out and it makes its way to the skip or charity shop.
Although when this happens, we feel like we're alone, for surely the person you have spent your life with for over a decade should surely know you wouldn't want *THAT* for Christmas - but alas, we aren't alone and our partners aren't the only ones who commit this particular form of emotional turmoil on us..
For years, we had to hide the offending item, bin it, or *eek* re-gift it (making sure we remember who gave it to us so we don't give it back to them!
) - but now... The danger of discovery has been lessened by the advent of eBay and the ability to pass on your disappointment to someone else who will treasure the over-sized wooly jumper that you can't wear because you're allergic!
